CSV was established in 1962 to involve people in community service and to promote voluntary and community action through eight main programmes nation-wide: CSV Volunteering Partners, CSV Training and Enterprise, CSV Education for Citizenship, CSV Employee Volunteering, CSV's Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP), CSV Environment, CSV Corporate Affairs and CSV Consulting.
CSV Education is the leading organisation in the UK for promoting citizenship education through active learning in the community. CSV Education works with schools, colleges and universities throughout the UK to equip young people for life, work and citizenship through activities that meet real community needs. It promotes young people undertaking community projects and tutoring in schools, active learning in the community in schools linked with life, work and citizenship and community volunteers working in schools. Its themes include paired learning, peer education, mentoring, citizenship education, environmental and community projects
